Fun-filled Summer

We have done so much fun stuff this summer, so instead of writing an essay about everything we did, I think I will just post pictures (I took A LOT) of some of the things we did and explain them... Be ready for a picture overload!

In May Colby turned 3 months which seems so long ago. He is a completely new baby now, but then he gave us a really hard time. He is super sensitive and has been since he was about three weeks old. He was super colicy (sp?) and would cry what seemed like all day long! But dang is he a cutie! :)

For Mother's Day, I surprised my mom and took her to paint class. It was fun to take time away and spend with her! We need to do it more.

Andrew's birthday was busy because it was right around midterms... but we took time to go out to eat at Texas Roadhouse and have presents and cake!

The weekend after his birthday, Andrew did a Ragnar in Tennessee with a bunch of his buddies. He did awesome and had so much fun.

We started potty training near the end of May! It was really hard the first few days. I felt like he was old enough because he fought me on getting his diaper changed, would ask to use the potty in nursery, and understood a little more. After the second or third day it clicked and he would go on his own without being reminded. It only took three days to not have any accidents! He has regressed a little since our big trip this summer but continues to be a big boy! We are so proud of him and how much he has done in the last few months to be bigger.

We took the boys to the circus randomly one day when we were looking for something to do. It was the weekend after Dean was potty trained, so it was our first big outing as a family. He did great with no accidents and enjoyed watching the circus and riding a pony!

Summer is filled with pool time and shaved ice around here. Uncle Bubba flew in to see us and surprise Dyson for his graduation.

Dyson graduated the end of May and we are so proud! It was the last sibling to graduate in our family. We missed Cade :( Dean was left with a babysitter which was new to us because he had never really been left with someone other than family.

For my birthday in June, Andrew took me zipling with some friends. It was the world's longest zipline and so much fun! The boys were a little difficult that day for me... which makes me realize moms have no days off... haha but I felt loved by family and friends.

The day Colby turned 4 months, it was like he became a new baby. They say between 3 and 4 months is when a colicky baby grows out of it and that is definitely what happened here! We went into for his 4 months shots and he was very fussy and Dean randomly had three potty accidents and was all over the place at the doctors... It was one of those days when I felt like giving up... but surprisingly after that life became easier. I don't know if Heavenly Father realized I couldn't handle a colicky baby and a busy two year old or I just got used to the craziness, but things have gotten much better. Colby is a sweet, happy baby. He loves his brother and watched him wherever he goes.

Colby loves the water just like Dean so we spend lots of time at the pool to beat the heat this summer.

For Father's day, Andrew got a gun case for his shotgun and hand gun he bought himself for this birthday. We had a nice day spending it as a family with candy and a yummy dinner.

My parents took us to see Finding Dory. It was a cute movie and Dean is like his Daddy.. he LOVES movies and going to the movie theater.

We took Dean fishing for the first time this summer. It was super hot outside, but Dean loved it even though we didn't catch anything. Georgia is so pretty with all the trees.

Colby went on his first airplane ride this summer to see family in Minnesota. All Andrew's siblings and mom were flying out there for a little reunion.

Colby did much better than expected and slept for most of the flight. We didn't even have to get up and stand with him the whole flight!

Dean also did amazing the flight and had lots of stuff packed to keep him busy.

Right when we flew in we drove up to Orr, Minnesota where we stayed in some nice cabins right on the lake. It was so beautiful up there and the weather was much cooler.

Dean loved spending time with his cousins while we were there (Kylee, Zack, and Tilly). There was lots of fun stuff to do there and Dean loved staying busy and staying up late.

We fished almost every day there! I caught the first biggest fish (a northern Pike). I didn't even really feel like fishing but Andrew wanted me to try and after only a couple of minutes I caught something. I didn't even know what to do... but it was fun and exciting!

Of course Andrew had to go out until he made sure he also caught a big fish. We had a delicious fish fry one night with all the fish we caught out on the boat.

We also went to a bear sanctuary while we were there where wild bears come and you can see them up close. There were so many  mosquitoes but Dean loved seeing the bears up close.

Dean loved riding in the boat and Colby did too (except he didn't like wearing his jacket). He went tubing a little with Andrew and helped Uncle Richard drive the boat a little bit.

The lake is so beautiful and empty!  Our last night we drove around the lake. It was a perfect way to end the trip.

Everyone who stayed at the lake :) Grandma spoiled the grandkids with a stuffed animal from her.

After the lake, we drove down to stay in Minneapolis with the rest of the family. While there, we went to Como zoo. It was so fun for Dean to see all the animals with his cousins. The animals all seemed so close, especially this gorilla!

Dean had never seen a real polar bear before, so he loved this! I think they are one of his favorite animals. Aunt Rachel got him a toy polar bear which he had to show to the bear. :)
While at the zoo, we went into a butterfly room.

After the zoo, we pretty much spent the rest of the trip at Mall of America! This place you could really spend a whole week there! There is so much to do. The first day we walked around and then the guys went golfing while the girls took the kids to the Crayola experience! There are shops, lots of food places, a Lego store, rides, mini golf, an aquarium, movie theater, and more!

We spent a whole afternoon here! The kids loved it and they got to make such fun things! Unfortunately, Dean regressed and had 4 accidents while we were here...

The boys on 4th of July! They really do love each other and get excited every time they see one another. Everything Dean does makes Colby laugh and get all excited. I love this picture of the two of them.

By the time we did fireworks, Dean was super tired after a long day at the mall. He did enjoy holding a sparkler though.

Everyone at the Mall

These three cousins are all within months of each other. It is fun to see them interact and play together (Tilly, Dean and Wes)

We love having Andrew home with us for three weeks in the summer, and it was sad to think this was the last time it will happen because next summer he will be graduated and start working. It is always an adjustment for me to be at home with the kids by myself after having his help during a break. Before he went back to school we took a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden with the boys. They have a new splash area where Dean could have spent the whole day. It was a fun day that wore the boys out.

It is crazy to me that Colby is now 5 months old! He is a sweet boy who loves being talked to, loves looking at books, does well during tummy time, grabs and things and puts everything in his mouth, smiles at everyone, is an observer, and is a sweet baby! We love him and watching him interact with Dean makes me realize what a blessing he is in our life and how much he was needed in our family.
